about

This song is a declaration of what the heroin in the previous story has realized. The enlightened person is a creator, instead of a reactor.

This awareness is exemplified in the creation story of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad: "In the beginning, there was only the Great Selfin the form of a Person. Reflecting, it found nothing but itself. Then its first word was: 'This am I!'" In the story, the Person realizes he is alone, then splits in two, becoming man and woman. The two have children, and the woman becomes ashamed. In order to get away from her mate, she turns her self into various creatures. In order to be with the female, the male also becomes the various creatures. Then he realized: "I, indeed, am this creation; for I have poured it forth from myself." In that way he became this creation. And verily, he who knows this becomes in this creation a creator.

The person who realizes "I AM"ness transcends the mind and body, and observes from a higher perspective. There is a realization that all is divine and sacred. One who transcends material concepts acts from a higher consciousness and perspective of unity.

lyrics

Lyrics:

Who knows what tomorrow will bring?
Will the sun rise? Will the songbirds sing?
Will I cry, or will I smile?
Make the best of it, or let life pass me by?
It’s mine to decide.

‘Cause I am that I am.
Not some power in the sky
Or ruler from on high.
I am that I am.
Not some power in the sky
Or ruler from on high.
I am.

Who is to say the wrongs that I’ve done?
That I have sinned to God?
When God and are one?
It’s all a matter of intention.
Whether mine is pure or not, that is the question.
And I’ll take it on.

‘Cause I am that I am.
Not some power in the sky
Or ruler from on high.
I am that I am.
Not some power in the sky
Or ruler from on high.
I am.

My cup overfloweth ‘cause what’s it’s made of and what I fill it with.
I am.
